RETURN FROM THE NETHERWORLD

Things have been a veritable FLURRY of action! The interview with Rich went well. I was gratified that Rick had said the same things about Mamet and the play in his own interview with Rich, to wit: this is a play, not about woman/woman relationships, but about the nature of Love Itself. And no man who has observed people as has Mamet and portrayed them rife with Folly and Error and Shame can say he is other than In Love with Humanity. (Capitals are probably Mamet’s.)

Rehearsal runs apace, and we are one day shy of 1. Off book for All Time 2. A day of rest 3. A sigh of relief.

The last week has been full of 8-hour stretches of Play:

5 hours line drill, three hours rehearsal. It has become great fun to be in the arena with Catherine, Anna and Claire.

I’m aware that my musings had become almost Apocalyptic in tone, but that is My Nature When Stressed.

There have been a few differences in “take” on certain lines, which have not been resolved to my satisfaction, but I’m hoping that a few more days will either acclimate me to another point of view, or prove that view unwieldy.

I’m looking forward to using the set, which will begin on Sunday with an 8-hour technical plus run-through. Movement always changes and timing becomes once again a thing of concern when steps and furniture finally get in the way. But this time is the Golden Time in rehearsal. The time when all the work begins to show and the magic begins. At times I feel it sweep me away in its power. There is NOTHING like the joy of bumping two words together to create millions of sense reactions, millions of meanings, rare moments of clarity and Truth that do not always exist in such abundance in our daily life. And THAT is why I went on the stage to BEGIN with. (And why, willy nilly, I keep drifting back…..That, and the COSTUMES, she said shallowly.)

I must rush to rehearse. TICK-TOCK!
