Actors Guild of Lexington, Central Kentucky’s premiere professional not-for-profit theatre, celebrating its 25th anniversary season, is seeking a Managing Director to partner with Artistic Director Richard St. Peter to run this small professional theatre in beautiful Lexington, Kentucky. The Managing Director works with the Artistic Director, a full and part time staff of 5, and a board of trustees. Actors Guild of Lexington produces a season of 6 Mainstage plays plus its outdoors Shakespeare at Equus Run summer series, special projects and readings and a growing educational and outreach program on an annual budget of approximately $450,000. Expertise with personnel and finance, excellent written and verbal communication skills and a passion for making theatre are required. A strong understanding of fundraising and grant-based development is vital. Knowledge of the not-for-profit theatre field and experience with marketing, board development and fundraising is desirable. Salary low-mid $30’s DOE, paid vacation and holiday leave. Job Summary Management: In tandem with the Artistic Director, oversees all of the organization's programs, services and activities, raises and manages funds to ensure organization remains financially viable, develop plans for periodic review and modification of programs to meet the continuously changing needs of the community, and the organization's goal of fiscal responsibility. Continue to develop collaborative programs with other agencies and ensure the highest levels of quality and service by inspiring staff to perform at their peak.
Fiscal Management: Ensure that Actors Guild of Lexington is fiscally sound and that the budget supports the implementation of the strategic plan. Ensure that the organization's growth is supported internally in key areas, including but not limited to: technology, facilities, human resources, fund development, and communications. Draft, present and interpret budget to the Board of Trustees.
Administrative Management: Oversee and implement appropriate human resource policies and procedures. Delegate effectively, while continuing to mentor and support staff. Promote an organizational culture that fosters cooperation, open and frequent communications and teamwork. Develop and foster an environment that maximizes employee growth and retention.
Relationship Building: Build on AGL's position as a unique theatre and producing organization in the Central Kentucky area. Work with individuals and other organizations to develop and cultivate significant collaborations. Represent the organization responsibly and professionally at public functions, including making effective public presentations. Build on key relationships with foundations, government and corporate partners.
Fund Development: Develop and sustain a diverse funding base to support the organization's program priorities and growth. Continue and build upon existing relationships with foundations. With the BOT, broaden long-range funding plans to guarantee the implementation and success of the organization's strategic goals. Augment grant funding by increasing corporate sponsorships. Balance new program funding with sustainable general operating support.
Strategic Planning: Work with the BOT, Artistic Director and staff in preparing a comprehensive annual strategic plan which supports the goals of the organization.
Board Development: Work with board leadership to develop an engaged, effective, informed and energized board. Serve as an ex-officio member, as requested by the Chair of BOT, on various working board committees. Assist the BOT in identifying and recruiting new candidates to create a balanced and actively involved team. Promote regular communication between board and staff.

Job Requirements and Qualifications:Proven leadership skills, preferably for not-for-profit organizations. Experience working with a diverse theatre and its complex arts issues is preferred. Previous theatre management experience desired.
Education/Experience: BS Business Management, Theatre Management or related areas and/or 3-5 years experience in senior management leadership of not-for-profit theatre. Relocation to the Lexington, KY service area is required. Actors Guild of Lexington seeks a highly energized individual to take on major organizational responsibilities, playing a pivotal role in the organization, the downtown renaissance, and in the emerging arts community. This is not a 40 hr/wk job, as this position requires a flexible and demanding work schedule.
